Sonex is excited to announce a new option for Sonex, Waiex and Xenos B-Models: Dual Sticks! Thanks to popular demand, we have created an optional Dual Stick installation for all B-Model aircraft, and are making a retrofit package available to customers wishing to convert their existing aircraft. This change includes a new Universal Seat Pan installation which improves access for autopilot servo installations, and installation & service of avionics sensor boxes or antennas.

Congratulations to Paul Dye and Louise Hose of Kitplanes Magazine who flew their eXenos (S/N X0061) with Zaero Elecric Propulsion for the first time today! The aircraft uses the Zaero Electric Propulsion system pioneered by Gabriel DeVault and supported by both Sonex and DeVault. Paul made two flights today from his home airpark in Dayton, Nevada.

Long-time Sonex employee and general manager Mark Schaible has purchased the assets of Sonex Aircraft, LLC and Sonex Aerospace, LLC and will continue their operations as owner and president of the newly formed Sonex, LLC. The Oshkosh, Wisconsin-based kit aircraft, engine, accessories and unmanned aircraft manufacturer is retaining all of the current staff and will seamlessly continue the operations founded by John Monnett in 1998, including fulfillment of all current orders. Monnett will stay-on as a lifetime emeritus advisor as-part of a new Sonex Advisory Board.

TEROS UAV Achieves Advanced Flight Testing

Sonex Aerospace, LLC is excited to announce that Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation (NASC) has successfully begun the flight test program for the NASC TEROS Group 4/5 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle technology demonstrator. The flight took place at the NASC Unmanned Aerial Systems Flight Operations and Training Center at the Griffiss International Airport in Rome, NY on January 29, 2020. The TEROS UAV flew for approximately 1.5 hours in both manual and autonomous flight profiles successfully testing the aircraft systems and avionics suite. It is with heavy hearts that we report the loss of two members of our Sonex family. Sonex Aircraft CEO Jeremy Monnett and Sonex assembly mechanic Mike Clark died yesterday in an accident involving Sonex Sport Acro N123SX at the East end of Wittman Regional Airport’s runway 9, which occurred on Tuesday, June 2nd at approximately 3:30pm. The cause of the accident remains unknown pending investigation by the FAA, NTSB and Sonex Aircraft.

The event will be held from 10am to 5pm, and is a great opportunity for Sun ‘n Fun attendees interested in Sonex Aircraft to experience a grass-roots Sonex builder event, as the Zephyrhills airport is only a 35 minute drive from Sun ‘n Fun grounds in Lakeland.

Sonex Aircraft is also announcing this week the availability of Onex upholstery packages, as well as Onex-specific installation provisions for the AeroConversions AeroVee Engine. These new additions to the line of Onex kits, accessories, and support serve to finalize the Onex aircraft design as a fully developed kit aircraft package, as the earliest Onex kit customers are nearing completion of their aircraft.

Sonex Aircraft, LLC is excited to announce that the SubSonex jet aircraft prototype, JSX-1, made its maiden flight today, August 10, 2011 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI. The SubSonex was piloted by air show performer and owner of Desert Aerospace LLC, Bob Carlton. The flight lasted approximately 14 minutes and focused on exploring the low-end of the aircraft's speed envelope, including stalls, and a low approach in the landing configuration.

Sonex Aircraft, LLC is pleased to announce that refundable deposits are now being accepted to reserve kit production slots for the Onex single-place, folding-wing, aerobatic sport aircraft. Onex Airframe Kit deliveries are expected to begin by mid-year, 2011, with Tail Kit deliveries beginning much sooner. The Onex has been a highly anticipated Sport Pilot-eligible airplane kit, as evidenced by Onex mailing list membership growing to over 1,300 subscribers. Many prospective Onex builders have submitted requests to make a deposit and reserve their place in-line for Onex kits, and the opportunity to make those reservations has now arrived.

Sonex Aircraft, LLC is proud to announce that the number one prototype of the new Onex single-place, folding-wing kit aircraft made its first flight yesterday, January 27, 2011 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI. Piloted by Sonex General Manager, CEO, and Onex designer Jeremy Monnett, the AeroVee-powered N111NX made an extensive flight orbiting the field. Monnett also made a low approach before landing, signifying his satisfaction with the initial handling and performance of the aircraft.

The Sonex Aircraft, LLC E-Flight Initiative proof-of-concept electric-powered Waiex aircraft achieved its first flight today, December 3, 2010 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI. Piloted by Sonex Founder and E-Flight team leader John Monnett, N270DC made a short hop on runway 27, intended to be a conservative non-pattern flight to break ground-effect and analyze in-flight system performance as the next step in testing. This short flight punctuates four years of development by the E-Flight design team in engineering, building and testing one of the most advanced electric flight packages ever conceived.

Sonex Aircraft, LLC is pleased to announce that the prototype Onex single-place aircraft will be making its debut at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2010. A formal roll out of the aircraft will take place during the Sonex Open House and Homecoming Fly-In on July 25th at Sonex Aircraft LLC’s Wittman Airport factory. The Aircraft will also be displayed in the Sonex booth at AirVenture: North Aircraft Display, Booth# 622. With Onex concept drawings first unveiled in the Sonex Aircraft, LLC Hornets’ Nest Research & Development exhibit at AirVenture 2009, this year’s show will be the first opportunity for members of the press and public to see the prototype aircraft in-person. Although not yet flying, the Onex prototype is in advanced stages of construction. The public will be able to try-on the Onex cockpit, and the aircraft’s unique wing fold mechanism will be demonstrated.
